Happy Friday & happy Breakfast Club day to those who celebrate. It’s also National Cheesesteak Day but I prefer that be celebrated in the Philadelphia area only. Iykyk
Full disclosure, I’ve not inserted images in Substack before so I have no idea how this will appear to you. This is the type of weekly wrap I’ve done in some form or another on blogger since 2011 - standardly in Thursday Thoughts but there have been variations. I’m not sure if I should keep it there or move it here. I’ve skipped it a few times recently but I search this weekly mishmash of crap like you would a calendar for what happened when, what paint colors I’ve used, and other things only I care about, so it continues. If you are new to me via Substack, you can find years of this at lifeaccordingtosteph.com or you can just sit tight and read on and see if this suits you. There will be cursing, there always is.
I was happy to catch up with Marla last night at Three Monkeys - we haven’t seen each other in YEARS. Really, since 2019, but that was only like a 20 minute pass by so it doesn’t count. Prior to that it was Marla’s birthday in 2017. Marla is one of my first blogging friends and I hope you follow her on Instagram - she’s a fierce Lupus and patient in general advocate, nurse, and all around smart, funny, real, fantastic woman. You can find me on Instagram too of course.
Old City looking like a dream even in yesterday’s overcast skies. I remain annoyed that we stay busy worshipping at the feet of the Founding Fathers instead of addressing the systems of inequity they set up by design. They did their part for America but it’s time to even shit out.
Since I was at my office yesterday then out to dinner and MFD was at the shore taking care of some shore chores AND my Dad & Carol who happen to be up at our house for a few days but out all day yesterday as well, the dogs were alone all day aside from a pop in from Mark & Sarah and me skidding in, dropping bags, and skidding out again, and they were not okay. Bruce would not go to sleep and was staring at me in the dark like a psycho from 11:30 - 1:30 am. They got groomed this week by Doggie Do’s Mobile Groomers which we love and they do too - local friends, check them out! You get groomed Ben and Mae and then bonus pineapple Mae and Ben’s work seat - what we have done to these dogs and ourselves with this pandemic - and none of Bruce because he was running around like he had a feather up his asshole.
Things to Think About
This Instagram collection of slides about how we do not hold men in power accountable in this country as referenced above
This Instagram art & caption by Nadia Fisher on banning books. My friends…fight like absolute HELL against this wherever it comes up - in a talk with your neighbor, in a bookstore or library, at the school board meeting. Fuck this fascist fearmongering bullshit. Fight.like.hell.
Indeed.
Books
Monthly reads post coming next week.
Currently reading an advanced copy of Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent.
I also read an ARC of The Bitter Past by Bruce Borgos.
You can always find all this by being my friend on Goodreads as well.
You?
Mundane life shit
I went to the DMV this week to get the photo for my license. I waited too long to renew as usual then had to wait for the photo card to come in the mail. The entire process is archaic, and fuck that Real ID PA people need to be getting if they don’t have a passport. The energy is never good in the DMV. People are annoyed and stressed out and you can smell it in the air.
Renewing my passport is next.
I did find a cheap chair for the shore porch that I can’t wait to pick up next weekend. I’m still hunting for replacement dining chairs for the shore and just this morning I found a dining bench I want but am waiting on.
I put out eight donation bags for Vietnam Vets Pickup on Wednesday. They’re a great organization if they operate in your area. I also listed some stuff on Poshmark this week and have some more to put up this weekend. I’m in Everything Must Go mode.
That’s the weekly run down
Have a great weekend. Be good to each other. I hope to be saying hello sunshine to the actual sun sometime soon. We need the rain because we got no snow this winter but I could use sky vitamin D and I know a lot of you could as well.
Love seeing you on substack - don't care where you write as long as you write. :)
